The Major Atom Girls went undefeated at the Blessed Sacrament Tournament in Hamilton, February 26-28 to win Gold.

Friday saw them take York 34-8.  In the second game against Niagara Thunder they lead 15-8 at the half but saw their lead disappear as they were unable to take advantage of their free throw opportunities.  Warriors trailed by six with two minutes to remain.

The Warriors full court pressure disrupted the Thunder offense while creating some easy baskets in transition.  With 3.5 secons remaining and the score 25-24 for Niagara, Sarah Benoit hit one of two free throws to tie the game at 25-25 and force overtime. Warriors took control in the overtime to win 33-26.

The final game of the round robin saw Warriors win 16-9 over London Gold.  This placed them in the top tier of their division for the medal round.

The semi-finals pitted Warriors versus Ottawa Xelles.  The Xelles suffered "flu" problems as well as fouling out two players in the game which severely weakened their team.  Warriors 24-Xelles 15.

For the Gold Medal Game, the Warriors faced their toughest competition of the tournament once again, Niagara Thunder.  The tone of the game was set in the first quarter as Warriors outscored Thunder 11-2.  Coaches Cooper and Cornel felt this was the best executed  game that the young Warriors had played this year.  The half time score was 21-8 Warriors and finished 33-18 to take the gold.

The intensity of the defense and the ability of the Warriors to work as a team on offense did not allow the Thunder to ever get going.  Congratulations Warriors - You've come a long way since October!
